Youtuber and synthesist extraordinaire, Alex Ball, has created a documentary outlining gear and techniques behind the Terminator 2 soundtrack. It’s a fascinating insight into compositional methods and the development of analog synthesis and digital sampling throughout the 80s and 90s.
Alex Ball has dug deep to give us a detailed look at the creation of the Terminator 2 soundtrack. If you’re keen to binge on nostalgia and learn about groundbreaking gear, it’s a must watch.
At the beginning of the video, Ball takes us back to the story of Brad Fiedel’s Terminator 1 OST, featuring gear from Sequential Circuits, Oberheim and an E-mu keyboard sampler.
The Fairlights were loaded with factory banks of sounds, as well as the Prosonus series of orchestral samples. The distinctive sonic manipulation within the Fairlights gave the soundtrack its unique character.
