Modular is all the rage at the moment. And for good reason. The possibilities of mixing and matching modules to suit your taste, all under the standardised Eurorack umbrella makes for an addictive new pastime.
The Delta CEP A from Radikal Technologies is a semi modular system that aims to make the introduction to a life of endless patch cables less overwhelming. It offers up a suite of synth essentials, with the ability to customise, or play it straight out of the box.
Modular synthesis can be a little overwhelming at first. With the Delta CEP A you can do it your own way, or play it straight out of the box.
The modules that are included are a swarm oscillator, mixer (with noise source), a filter section that combines the best analog and digital designs, an LFO and an envelope generator.
Then there are the proprietary digital elements of the system, including the snapshot interpolator (which gives you the ability to store and play audio snapshots in a sequence) plus an effects section, that encompasses stereo delay, phasing, chorus and more.
The system has a MIDI interface as well, which is essential for running the synth in paraphonic mode (allowing you to play chords).
Aside from all the tech specs, how does the thing sound? As you can hear from the demo, the answer to that question is: very good.
