Pioneer DJ has released a brand new baby controller, the DDJ-200. The new entry level model comes as a further expansion to the company’s controller lineup, after the recent release of the DDJ-800. Interestingly, the DDJ-200 is Pioneer’s first controller optimised for streaming purposes.
Pioneer DJ has released another model for their controller range. The DDJ-200 is geared towards beginners and offers streaming integration via mobile phone.
The DDJ-200 is still capable of connecting to a laptop and playing downloaded files in a traditional manner via Rekordbox, however, its main appeal is its ability to connect to Pioneer’s WeDJ app for mobile phones via Bluetooth. Pioneer recently released the second version of their mobile software, which integrates directly with Beatport LINK and Soundcloud Go and offers a range of tutorials for beginner DJs.
If you’re not a user of Pioneer’s WeDJ app, the DDJ 200’s compatibility extends to Algoriddim’s djay for iOS, which uses Spotify, and MWM SAS’s edjing Mix for iOS and Android, which uses Deezer.
Although seasoned DJs may prefer the feeling of plugging in a USB, there’s no doubt that streaming will have a big part to play in the future of DJing. From the looks of things Pioneer is trying to get ahead of the game, and at the same time cater to all levels of intermediate users. Their new DDJ-200s will surely appeal to many new users thinking of dipping their toes into the DJ game.
