Innovative headphones designers Nura have partnered with Melbourne based record label Spirit Level to produce a limited edition 12-inch release for Record Store Day.

Nura’s Nuraphones have made waves recently by rethinking the traditional headphone. These cans use cutting edge technology to measure and map how your ears react to sound and automatically adjust audio frequencies tailored to each listener.

Nura’s collaboration with Melbourne based label Spirit Level marks the first music released using the innovative new headphones. The record will feature a Happy Axe remix by Tim Sheil, as well as a previously unreleased song by Braille Face.

Both songs were optimised for listening on Nuraphones by Melbourne engineers Becki Whitton (mixing) and Lachlan Carrick (mastering), who used Nura’s ‘Personalised sound’ and ‘Immersion mode’. The short documentary below details the process.

The limited release vinyl will be available in select stores in Melbourne, Los Angeles and London on Record Store Day (13th April). Tim Shiel’s remix of Happy Axe is now available for streaming on most platforms. Head over to Spirit Level’s Bandcamp to check it out.
