Experimental duo, Matmos, is set to release an album that is created entirely from plastic sounds. Plastic Anniversary is a comment on the material itself and marks the duo’s 25th anniversary as a couple.
Matmos went deep into the world of human made detritus and emerged with an innovative sonic exploration a singular material. Plastic Anniversary is slated for release in March.
The group relished the opportunity to bring the discarded back to life. And while the sounds were restricted to a heavily limited palette, the variety of textures that they sourced within the medium was rich, including:
“Bakelite dominos, Styrofoam coolers, polyethylene waste containers, PVC panpipes, pinpricks of bubble wrap, silicone gel breast implants and synthetic human fat.”
