Honouring the “King of Boogie Woogie”, John Lee Hooker, Epiphone has released the 100th Anniversary Zephyr.
John Lee Hooker was one of the most influential blues musicians of all time, remembered for classics such as Boom Boom and Dimples, and Epiphone’s tidy reissue would make him proud.
The smart new outfit packs in Epiphone ProBucker Mini-Humbuckers, with Wilkson Deluxe machine heads and the vintage Zephyr archtop.
The Epiphone Zephyr is the perfect 100th-anniversary tribute to the ‘King of Boogie Woogie’ – legendary bluesman John Lee Hooker.
The Anniversary Zephyr was made in cooperation with the John Lee Hooker Estate to celebrate the legend’s 100th birthday. The guitar is a faithful replica of the rare 1961 Epiphone Zephyr that Hooker used as his main axe through the ’60s and 70’s. In fact, the original is as rare as hen’s teeth – only 45 were made between 1959 and 1963.
The all-hollow body design has a maple top and body and is adorned with traditional unbound f-holes, or as Hooker would call them, ‘Dimples’. The Zephyr sports a vintage ‘C’ profile and 20 medium jumbo frets to tickle. Included in the package is a vintage style hard case and a leather strap, everything you need to start jamming the 12-bar.
