Emulating the Synth Sounds of Blade Runner on a microKORG

The Blade Runner soundtrack, composed by Vangelis, looms large in the canon 80s analog synthesis. Youtuber StrangeQuarkStar has recreated an especially memorable melodic brass patch on the humble microKORG.

The Blade Runner soundtrack remains hugely influential for musicians searching for sweeping, cinematic synth tones. This microKORG tutorial shows that it’s more accessible than you might think.

The video demonstrates the desired tone at the beginning, then goes onto show, in detail, the editing required to bring this particular sound to life.

Considering the gargantuan size and price tag of Yamaha CS80 (Vangelis’ instrument of choice), getting this close with a microKORG is commendable.
