Arturia have just announced the imminent availability of their latest piece of synth hardware: the MicroFreak. It packs a punch that belies its size, with a unique sound engine and a massive range of performance options.

Arturia’s MicroFreak is coming soon. It’s a feature packed compact synth that encourages experimentation, all in a budget friendly, portable package.

This is how Arturia sums up the MicroFreak experience:

“A synthesizer like no other, MicroFreak is a peculiar, exceptional instrument that rewards the curious musician. It blends wavetable and digital oscillators with analog filters. It features a unique poly-aftertouch flat keyboard. It adds controlled randomness to sequences. This isn’t a revolution, it’s a mutiny.”

The synth has 11 digital oscillator types, including a simple FM oscillator, a wavetable and virtual analog. There is also an analog filter, based on the Oberheim designed SEM filter.

Sequencing is extended through randomising modes like spice (alters parameters without changing pitch) and dice (used in conjunction with the touchstrip, randomises the sequence by the amount you choose).

And though the keyboard surface is flat, it’s touch sensitive and supports polyphonic aftertouch.
