Circle – From Your Father

Circle have just put to bed another studio demo called From Your Father. For the record its probably half the length the final mix will be and a lot of the instrumentation (especially the strings will be re-recorded). What you’re listening to here is samples and ideas brought together as spontaneously as possible. There’s a real Arabic music influence vibe going on here and we did our best to bring that to the fore with the samples and over dubbed melodies. That little flourish that sounds like it could be an lute is actually a bass line played 2 octaves higher in reverse.

If we live to regret this then so be it, but we’ve decided to give Sydney signer songwriters a day in the studio. A free one! Every Tuesday from now until the 15th of June, we’ll be offering a full day of our time to produce, track, mix and master a song for a solo artist.

And we should thank the team at IYBI for a great job on the poster design above. They also helped with our logo design back in the day.

We’ve been working on some studio demos with Circle over the last couple of weeks. What’s a studio demo? Well we figure we go as hard as we can for a very short amount of time and what we end up with is what the band releases. Tracked, mixed and mastered right here. Here are the first two offerings. Circle – All the People

This was one of the more interesting tracks to record on Circle’s album The Middle. I’ll take a moment to go into the details at some point. It had mostly to do with the one take guitars and bells. For now here is the great video the band made for the track. The track is called all the people and its a sad songs I guess. I wouldn’t go as far as saying its one of those songs that make you cry but it is emotional and that was very important with the mix choices we made as well as of course the production. Great little indie video they made for it too.

The man behind the controls for groups like Boris, Yura Yura Teikoku, Guitar Wolf, Ai Aso, The 5.6.7.8′s, Nagisa Ni te, Afrirampo, Tenniscoats, My Pal Foot Foot, Ghost’s Michio Kurihara, Maher Shalal Hash Baz, and Nisennenmondai, Nakamura’s busy schedule also includes mastering and live sound work, and is a result mostly of word of mouth… READ THE REST ON TAPE OP. Our live-room-to-be ‘the Garden‘ was a DA approved extension from way back since before the studio was open. That DA is about to expire! We have our sights set on getting the ball rolling on the space this year but it’s not cheap. Time for a charity ball perhaps?
